‘Mindful burn’ and an Instagram worthy studio


To say Sydney has its fair share of Pilates studios would be the understatement of the century. If anything, I’m pretty sure we have more Pilates than F45 studios – and that’s saying an awful lot.

So you really need that ‘wow’ factor to stand out in such a saturated market, which is exactly what Bodylove Pilates offers.

I’m just going to say this straight up: this studio is Nek. Level. Boujee.

Located within the iconic Queens Court building in Woollahra, Bodylove Pilates boasts a dreamy, pastel-hued space that is definitely #gramworthy and instantly sparks a sense of relaxation the moment you step foot through the doors. You then have the abundance of natural light shining through the large arch windows that provides you with an instant hit of energy, which strangely makes you excited to workout.

But aesthetics aside, what sets this luxe studio apart from others is the fact that it offers over 17 Pilates and yoga classes that each cater to a different niche, yet all carry one fundamental goal: mindfulness.

“I believe in the mindful burn – that powerful challenge of both physical stamina and mind-body connection,” says Bodylove found Ali Handley.

“After my time in New York, teaching at private and group class studios, I knew I wanted to create a studio that bridged the gap between the two – elevating the group class experience. Bodylove Pilates is a wellness space reimagined and once people experience the variety of our specially designed classes, they will be addicted.” (can confirm “addicted” is definitely the correct term)

Handley believes form and the mind-body connection are just as important as physical stamina and endurance, which is exactly what Bodylove Pilates is all about.

She has created classes designed for a range of different ages (peeps over 60 are invited to the mindful-burn party, too) including Total Bodylove Reformer – an open level 50-minute workout designed to inspire precision, balance and alignment within the body; low-impact, high-intensity cardio based reformer class Jump Rebels; an “abs, arms and ass” high-intensity mat class The Assets; and Vital Vinyasa – a 60-minute dynamic class aimed to challenge you physically and mentally.

Handley’s background in pre- and post-natal training and teaching also means she’s incorporated her knowledge into her studio, whereby she offers classes for expectant parents or those recovering from birth.

“As a Mother of three I know how important it is to build and maintain strength during pregnancy and make time for your recovery postpartum,” Handley adds. “We want to offer that service to the mothers of Sydney with a significant schedule of prenatal classes at peak times everyday.”

All classes are taught in one of the studio’s two naturally-lit spaces.

Bodylove also runs workshops on Saturdays through a program called ‘The Clinic’. Here, Handley and other experts in the Pilates, fitness and wellness sphere offer 1:1 support to help broaden participants’ knowledge and capability in Pilates and other wellness practices.

For such a luxury studio offering a plethora of services, cost of membership isn’t too damaging. New members can pay $50 for 2-weeks unlimited access to reformer and mat Pilates, yoga and barre classes. Drop-in classes and 10-pack deals are also available. For those who are ready to commit to a full membership, the Bodylove Unlimited package will set you back $65 per week, and $80 for the ‘Unlimited Prenatal’ package, which also gives you access to twice monthly Clinic sessions with prenatal experts.
